Harmonica II
What we have here is a canal boat with a difference, using a design from jim michalak this is my version of Harmonica a shantyboat, what I was looking for was a lightweight boat which could sleep two and be towed by the average small car. or even large trike/motorbike combination, some other advantages started to appear when the water authority licensing system is investigated, with no fitted electrics, gas or engine and an open top, it is considered to be a portable powered boat, which halves the yearly licence and removes the requirement for a inspection and certificate.
Using a 4hp outboard engine it is quite happy with 4 adults and a couple of kids on a days boating, overnight sleeping it will accommodate 2 adults. Handling wise it will turn on a sixpence and as it draws only a couple of inches of water, will move through the water with ease.
weighing in at 600lbs (270kgs) it can be lifted by 4 add the weight of a custom trailer to tow it and the all up weight is around the 1100lbs (500kgs) which most if not all small cars can tow.

below is my take on the coracle, rather than make it in lathes and cloth, we have built one in ply and fibreglass cloth, can be picked up with one hand, quite happy with a good sized adult in the water.
